I spent a rainy Sunday in Manchester Climbing Centre taking part in a new AMI workshop. There were 30 Mountaineering Instructors from all over the UK taking part in this ground breaking workshop to formulate an idea of the remit of the Technical Advisor Role and to share working practice and experience of different climbing walls.
Nate McMullan, the treasurer of AMI, Managing Director of Crookes Climbing Wall Services and Technical Advisor for many walls in the UK, ran the Workshop and introduced various professional speakers and gave opportunities to share knowledge. Contributors included: Nic Crawshaw – Climbing Arena Manager at Ratho , Audrey Seguy – Manager of The Castle Climbing Centre, Pete Stacey MIA – Climbing Wall Technical Advisor, Mick Cooke – climbing wall engineer from Entreprise and John Donne – professional climber and owner of Manchester, Harrogate and Reading Climbing walls.
A well organised, comprehensive and imformative workshop that forms the basis for MIA’s to become competent Technical Advisors for Climbing Walls.
