An exciting and stimulating CWLA Training at UCR in Bristol with Harry Martin, Geo Macintyre, Toby Dunford and Alan Reason. A wealth of experience meant a deep understanding of the areas covered, and a great sharing of ideas and observations in a very practical course.

Discussions of techniques and steps were lengthy and involved and everyone came to the conclusion that there was always more than one way to skin a cat, or in this case to teach lead climbing and that clients learned in different ways, at different speeds and it was the job of instructors to meet the needs of clients whatever their age or level of experience, to assess when clients were ready to move to the next phase and to monitor progress and adapt as necessary.
Precision and safety were the basis of all areas covered using progressive techniques from initial lead belaying opportunities to belaying and taking falls. The progressive falling session was particularly exciting and exhilerating for the candidates.
All in all a very enjoyable course, and fun washad by all.
‘Thanks for an excellent course on Saturday. I thought that was absolutely on the money. ‘ Geo Macintyre
